Joining Rotary

You may be considering joining Rotary but are not sure what this might involve and cost. You may even wonder what Rotary is about

Our tried and tested motto is "Service above Self". Pretty clear? If you feel you would like put something back into the community either locally or internationally then Rotary is an enjoyable way of achieving that.

The four objects of Rotary are:

  • FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Basically what this means is that the wonderful friendship of Rotary guides you in the best way for you personally to offer service. Rotarians have respect for all occupations and and Rotarians adopt high ethical standards in their working life. Using your own particular profession,/job/skill to help others whether directly or indirectly. That whatever a Rotarian does in life it is with the thought of helping others and finally through the international side of Rotary - there are 1.2 million members - we can work towards peace and harmony in the world.

That's quite a mouthful so what can you expect in Lymington Rotary.

We meet once week at lunchtime in the Lymington Community Centre, except for the last Wednesday of the month when we meet at the South Lawn Hotel.

We run two major events a year Lymington Spectacular & Classic Car Show in August and Father Christmas in December. The money collected goes to local and international charities

But we also have lots of other committments: Bingo at a local care home, collecting on the street for international disasters and so on.

We have many membership activities such as inter Rotary club sports, theatre outings, local walks, formal events such as Presidents night, eating out together and so on.

Our members are drawn from various occupations Rotary does not discriminate on gender, race or belief. We welcome those who are working and those who have retired.

If this interests you then complete the contact form and mention you are interested in becoming a Rotarian. Or you can email the Membership Officer here or call him on 01590 610241and ask for Malcolm.

We will come back to you, have a chat on the phone perhaps and if you would like invite you to lunch to see how you like us.

PS Cost. Always a difficult topic. Membership is £180 per year. Lunch is £11.00 although you do not have to pay if you do not attend having given prior notice. There are other events you will probably want to attend such as Presidents Night, maybe a meal at a skittles evening, lunch after a Sunday walk...... Realistically it will cost about £750 minimum but much of that you would probably spend anyway.
